
NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is the second richest chief minister in India, with declared assets exceeding Rs 332 crore, according to a survey released on Monday by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
With assets above Rs 931 crore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is the richest chief minister in India. At just Rs 15 lakh, Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal is the poorest.
Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is the second poorest Chief Minister on the list with assets of Rs 55 lakh, while Pinarayi Vijayan comes in third with Rs 118 crore.
According to the data, the assets of 31 chief ministers together summed up to Rs 1,630 crores. From state assembly and union territories, the average asset per chief minister is Rs 52.59 crore.
Only two of the 31 chief ministers are female: Atishi of Delhi and Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal.
The average self-income of a chief minister is Rs 13,64,310, which is over 7.3 times the average per capita income of India, despite the country's per capita net national income (NNI) being around Rs 1,85,854 for 2023–2024.
However, Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, also has the distinction of having the largest liabilities of any of his colleagues, totalling Rs 180 crore.
