ITANAGAR: Six education officials of the Arunachal Pradesh state who were earlier arrested and suspended on charges of their alleged involvement in the paper leak scandal of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) have been reinstated.
The officials include Iken Bagra, Radek Romin, Posi Gamlin, Joi Sora, Tama Saroh, and Taniyang Gaduk. Their arrests in September 2022 were part of a larger investigation into the leak of the assistant engineer (civil) examination question paper.
Tama Saroh, a junior teacher in Siang district, acted as a middleman in the scam, facilitating the procurement of the question paper for Taniyang Gaduk’s son, Thomas Gaduk. Following their arrests, both Taniyang Gaduk and Radek Romin have since retired from service.
The six officials were reinstated after they had managed to secure bail from the high court and then filed a petition to be readmitted to service. The court found that the education department had not reviewed their suspension orders within the 90-day timeframe as required, hence the reinstatement. The high court held that the suspension order had lost its validity because of this failure.
There have been allegations of interference in the disciplinary process, with some of the accused being said to be relatives of officials handling the case. The delays in the departmental inquiry and inconclusive reports have also complicated the matter, allowing the accused to take advantage of the procedural loopholes.
