ITANAGAR: In a powerful display of community spirit and environmental commitment, the Tawang district administration in Arunachal Pradesh, under the leadership of deputy commissioner Kanki Darang, spearheaded a mass cleanliness drive on Friday at the picturesque Jhongatser Lake, one of the district’s most cherished tourist attractions. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from officers and staff across multiple departments, including PWD, urban development, tourism, and PHED. Adding to the momentum, personnel from the Indian Army joined hands later in the day, reinforcing the collective mission despite steady rainfall. Undeterred by the weather, the joint team successfully cleared two truckloads of waste, underscoring the administration’s unwavering dedication to preserving the region’s natural beauty. Addressing the event, DC Darang emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness, particularly in ecologically sensitive and tourist-frequented areas. He urged locals and tourists alike to embrace cleanliness as a shared responsibility, and directed security personnel to ensure strict waste segregation and proper disposal practices.
