TAWANG: In a significant step towards improving mental health services, the District Counselling Centre, under the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), has launched a new initiative to improve mental health services.

Called ‘Targeted Interventions for Anxiety Disorders, Stress, Depression, PTSD, and General Mental Health,’ the programme aims to make psychological care easier to access, spread awareness, and provide better mental health support in Tawang district.

The launch event took place on Monday at the DC office conference hall and was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang in the presence of DMO Dr Rinchin Neema, District Programme Officer (NMHP) Dr Sangey Thinley, and other officials. Organised by the District Health Society, the event reinforced the district’s commitment to advancing mental healthcare services.

The initiative aims to provide better support for people dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and stress-related issues. It also focuses on raising awareness in the community to reduce the stigma around mental health.

Another important part of the program is improving healthcare facilities so that counselling and medical help are easy to access. Additionally, the initiative involves collaboration with local healthcare professionals and organisations to ensure effective implementation of the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Darang emphasised the importance of tackling mental health challenges and ensuring that support systems are readily available for those in need. He underscored the role of mental well-being in overall community development and urged people to seek help without hesitation.

DMO Dr Neema reiterated the district’s strong commitment to improving mental healthcare services and ensuring that individuals experiencing mental health difficulties receive timely assistance.
