PASIGHAT: A one-day legal awareness on domestic violence, drugs and substances abuses was organized under the aegis of APSCW by the Tayeng Welfare Society Women Wing (TWSWW) in collaboration with District legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Siang and Mebo Sub-Divisional Administration on Friday at Government Higher Secondary School, Mebo.
APSCW Chairperson, Kenjum Pakam addressing a large gathering of students, women among others, said that such dissemination of the various rights and provisions for protection of women and children at the grass-root level will truly empower them by creating an enabling and supportive environment for them to seek redressal and support system adding the APSCW is committed such outreach efforts by stakeholders.
She also dwelt on protection of women from sexual harassment at workplace and provisions like internal complaint committee.
On the burning issue of drug abuse in society, the APSCW Chairperson said that the sustained collective efforts of parents, NGOs and all stakeholders for the future of the children will continue and lauded TWSWW led by president Yamen Panyang Tayeng and GS and former APSCW member Oter Tayeng for the initiative.
Mebo ADC Aeinstein Koyu in his address said that Mebo sub-divisional administration will take initiative with school authorities and voluntary organizations to conduct workshops on “anti drug campaign” in every school by roping in experts and inspiring figures.
Member Secretary, APSCW, Sangeeta Yirang also highlighted the roles and responsibilities and the functions of the statutory body, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women in empowering and uplifting the status of women of the state.
Women Against Social Evils (WASE) President, Yamik Dulom Darrang, WASE GS Joya Tasung Moyong, Adi Bane Ane Kebang, President, Onam Darrang Pertin also delivered inspiring speeches.
The WASE leaders said the mission of WASE Mothers to safeguard our sons and daughters and our fight against drug abuse and alcohol to protect our youth will be carried out and they urged to keep and shun from the destructive grip of drug abuse and urged all mothers and society to join in the fight.
Dr. Kaling Jerang, Senior pathologist in his PPT on “ Tobacco, Alcohol, Drugs and substance abuse, informed the audience not only on diseases caused by use of these substances, but also on the mental and social costs the addict, the family and the whole society has to pay because of addiction.
He also explained how all addictions start as experimentations, finally leading to addictions and exhorted the audience, special school children to refuse the offer of taking substances, right the first time and spend time in positive activities.
Advocate, Nyambi Dabi enlightened the house on the legal matters, Domestic Violence Act, Marriage Registration & Narcotics Act.
She also highlighted on the importance of Compulsory Registration of Marriage under Arunachal Pradesh Recording of Marriage Act, 2008 and also urged to avail free legal services and support in these matters from free legal clinic from competent Advocate and paralegal volunteers under District legal Services Authority (DLSA).
Yamem Panyang Tayeng, TWSWW president said that the successful conduct of the one day legal awareness has motivated them to carry out more such outreach programmes.
