ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resources and Development Agency (APBRDA) Chairman Tungri Effa said that Arunachal Pradesh has huge potential in the Bamboo sector.

Addressing senior officials of the APBRDA under the department of Environment and Forests in a coordination meeting today, Effa said the bamboo sector could be a money spinner for the State, if properly tapped.

"Despite Arunachal having the highest wild bamboo production among the North Eastern states, the bamboo resources go waste in the state," he said.

He said, "We use bamboo only as an edible item but there are many benefits of the bamboo plant."

The newly-appointed Chairman said that if the bamboo resources are properly used it can boost the economy of the State and also offer a permanent source of revenue for the State.

Effa expressed hope that the Bamboo sector will get a boost with experienced officers at the helm of the APBRDA.

He asked the officers of the Department to guide him in promoting the sector.

He thanked the state government for appointing him to lead the APBRDA and expressed hope that the state government will extend all assistance and support to the agency.

Earlier, Forest Geneticist Dr G Murtem briefed about the APBRDA.

Among others, APBRDA vice-chairman Kuru Tai and other newly-appointed members and department officials were present in the meeting.
