ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul highlighted the positive impact of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in the state, citing an improvement in the sex ratio.

In 2023-24, 14 out of 25 districts recorded more than 900 females per 1,000 males.

Speaking at a Beti Janmotsav event at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district on Monday, Pul stated that the state’s overall sex ratio stands at 948.68 females per 1,000 males, surpassing the national average of 930.

Five districts, namely Shi Yomi, East Kameng, Kamle, Upper Siang, and Tawang, even recorded sex ratios above 1,000 during the same period, she pointed out.

The minister also noted a significant decline in dropout rates among girls at the secondary and higher secondary levels, which fell from 30.89% in 2019-20 to 12.5% in 2021-22.

Additionally, first-trimester antenatal care (ANC) registrations have improved, indicating better maternal and child health outcomes, she said.

Pul emphasized the benefits of the BBBP scheme and urged women to take advantage of government initiatives aimed at empowerment. She called for increased awareness about girl child trafficking and stressed the importance of parental support in ensuring the safety and well-being of daughters.

The minister also outlined recent government measures related to child adoption, including prioritizing intra-district and intra-state adoption, creating contractual posts for managing child and women help lines, and allocating funds for Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) quarters and working women’s hostels.
