ITANAGAR: In a major break through, Itanagar Capital Police has busted the bike-lifter gang and recovered 18 stolen two-wheelers, arrested 5 accused and solved 12 cases.

Addressing the reporters at the police station here today, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said that the capital police have been receiving numerous complaints against the theft of two-wheelers within ICR for the past many days.

Accordingly, a team of police led by SDPO Kamdam Sikom was formed to look into the matter. Subsequently, the team has recovered 18 two-wheelers and arrested 5 people in connection to the case, he added.

He said on September 17 last, a written complaint was received from one Phill Teti of Jollang village who complained of his bike being stolen by some unknown person from Ganga area. Accordingly, a case was registered vide ITA PS Case No. 400/2021 u/s 379 IPC.

"Responding to the complaint, the Night patrolling team of Chimpu Police station nabbed one Toko Gotam (18 years) on an intervening night at around 2 am from Chandranagar area," he said.

He said, on further interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to sell the stolen items like mobile and two-wheelers to one Philimon Mochahary of Langdang Para village under Gohpur District, Assam.

"Subsequently, a team bike-lifter, Itanagar ,stolen two-wheelersof police raided Philimon Mochahary house at midnight and arrested him for the said case. On further detailed examination he revealed that he has a team who steal from Twin City and sell them in the Hollongi Gohpur area," he added.

He said the stolen bikes are being later sold at the price ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 without document.

"The team of police led by SDPO Sikom raided in different places in Assam near Hollongi Kokila area and recovered 12 stolen two-wheelers and arrested one Modaram Basumatari and Rajiv Mochahary," he said, adding that some of the receivers and the seller are still absconding from the police and more two-wheelers are expected to be recovered soon.

Yet in another instant, one Nich Vikash (18 Years) was caught red-handed while trying to break the lock of a two-wheeler near Zero points on September 22. The police recovered one laptop and two mobile from his possession. Accordingly, the case has been registered against him vide ITA PS Case no. 405/2021 u/s 379 IPC.

"Till now the Capital Police has recovered 7 Yamaha (Ray-Z), 3 Yamaha Fasino, 1 Royal Enfield, 1 TVS Apache, 1 Hero Glamour, 1 TVs Scarcity, 1 Bajaj Avenger, 1 Vespa, 1 Yamaha FZ and 1 Aprilia (SR-150)," he said.

Meanwhile, Chiram appreciated the capital police team as well as the Assam police who assisted in the success of the entire operation. He also requested denizens of twin-city Capital to be extra vigilant in containing such types of increasing crimes and also inform Capital Police immediately by calling at 112.
