ITANAGAR: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today emphasised the vital role of the Deputy Commissioners to drive the development process in the state.
In his remark at the second day of the two-day DC's Conference held at DK Convention Centre here on Friday, Khandu stated, "DCs are pivotal in driving development at the grassroots.".
This two-day conference was held for detailed discussions on the assigned themes, he said, adding, "With the support of the Guardian Ministers and Mentor Secretaries to systematise the entire development process, we ensure effective implementation of the policies reaching every corner of Arunachal Pradesh."
The second day of the DC's conference 'Sashakt Arunachal' under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pema Khandu was filled with insightful discussions on key governance areas like Surakshit Arunachal, Shikshit Arunachal, and Swachh Arunachal. Ministers and senior government officers, led by Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, including commissioners, secretaries, and DCs, shared innovative solutions and success stories, highlighting efforts to improve law & order, public health, education, and sanitation-reinforcing the commitment of the government for sustainable and inclusive growth.
Participating in the discussion, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein stressed the importance of the introduction of a third language as compulsory in both government and private schools in order to preserve our mother tongue.
He said that the government has taken steps to introduce a third language in schools and asked the DCs to ensure that this initiative becomes a success. He added that the National Education Policy encourages students to focus on tribal languages and local traditions, which are crucial to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the State. Education should not only be about knowledge but also about imparting our indigenous roots, ensuring our future generations grow up with a deep sense of pride in their identity, he added.
Mein also emphasized the need for a Surakshit Arunachal, where we tackle critical issues like substance abuse. It is imperative that we focus on creating a safe and healthy environment for our people, especially the youth. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can ensure the well-being and prosperity of our communities, the DCM added.
The two-day conference aimed at aligning strict-level governance with the state's developmental vision to ensure effective implementation of policies and programmes to take the state to the next level of growth and prosperity. The deliberations based on identified themes - Swasth Arunachal, Samridh Arunachal, Sundar Arunachal, Surakshit Arunachal, Shikshit Arunachal and Swachh Arunachal, discussed various issues, challenges and possible measures to further accelerate the pace of development, besides realising the goal of building a Shashakt, Shikshit and Viksit Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier, the day began with a session on "Surakshit Arunachal," where Secretary RWD, Nitu Tsering Glow, spoke on drug abuses and accidents. He was followed by DC Roing & DC Namsai in presenting their thematic stories of their respective districts. This followed a special session on 'Challenges of Saturation,' led by Secretary Planning & Investment R.K. Sharma.
The morning session concluded with a discussion on "Shikshit Arunachal," where Working Group E and DCs presented their thematic stories, followed by a special session on 'issues relating to land acquisition,' initiated by Secretary Land Management.
The afternoon session had a discussion on "Swachh Arunachal," where Working Group C and DCs presented their thematic stories in regard to the theme. Later, Secretary Planning & Investment highlighted the 'role and expectations from the Guardian Ministers and Mentor Secretaries' in a special session. The day concluded with a feedback session moderated by the Commissioner to CM, followed by key takeaways from the conference presented by the Principal Secretary.
