ITANAGAR: The arterial road leading to the Sange Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) connecting National Highway (NH-415) at Chimpu is in bad shape and needs urgent attention of the PWD, the Capital administration and the State Government.
The locals residing in the SLSA area are facing untold suffering due to bad roads for years together and even after the road project and a bridge on the Kangko nallah have been approved by the State Government, these are yet to take shape.
An official from the PWD informed that the distance of the arterial road from NH-415 to SLSA is around 1.5 km and few hundred metres of the said stretch has been done with CC pavement. With regards to the construction of a bridge, the officials said that the Government has approved an amount of Rs 310 lakh for a bridge with a 25-meter span.
The tender works have already been done and the dismantling of the old bridge has been done and a new bridge will be constructed with an open foundation and followed by other civil works, he said.
To regulate the traffic movement, a small culvert was constructed but due to heavy rain the damaged portion could not be taken up. Depending upon the weather conditions, the restoration work will be done and direction has been given to the contractor, the official added.
It may be mentioned that the said stretch is the only lifeline of several offices and colony and the SLSA. Several officers and officials of the sports department, which include the Sports Authority of Arunachal, Directorate of Sports, Directorate of Youth Affairs, Centre of Excellence, more than one thousand locals also reside in the vicinity and also a huge indoor stadium for badminton is also coming up in the area. All the office staff, public and students are using the said road, which has been in a bad shape for years together.
