Drug Peddlers Arrested with Heroin Worth Rs 60,000 in Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh Police under its Operation Dawn 2.0 initiative have apprehended two drug peddlers and seized 22.9 grams of heroin worth Rs 60,000 from their possession, a senior police officer said.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Police under its Operation Dawn 2.0 initiative have apprehended two drug peddlers and seized 22.9 grams of heroin worth Rs 60,000 from their possession, a senior police officer said.

Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo on Sunday said the two were arrested from their residence in Nyigam Colony, near here.

He said police were alerted about two individuals allegedly possessing heroin and selling it to local youths.

Acting promptly, a police team led by Naharlagun police station officer-in-charge Krishnendu Dev under supervision of SP Gambo and Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo conducted an operation.

The team arrested Md Mazaharul Islam (24), and Musidah Begum (20), the SP said, adding that during body search conducted in presence of an executive magistrate, two vials containing heroin weighing 2.5 grams were recovered from Islam's possession.

During interrogation, the two disclosed that additional contraband was stored in his rented residence in Nyigam Colony, the SP said.

He said a search was conducted in their residence which led to recovery of 14 plastic vials containing heroin weighing 20 grams, concealed inside a cooking utensil in the kitchen.

The two have been arrested and a case has been registered at Naharlagun police station under Section 21(b)/29 of the NDPS Act and further investigation is on, Gambo said.
