Imphal: During a raid in the southern Kakching district on Sunday, Manipur Police detained a suspected UPPK cadre and discovered several incriminating documents in his unlawful possession, according to the police report.

On Saturday at around 6 am, a group of Kakching district commandos detained a cadre of the banned armed group UPPK from the Hiyanglam Lai Panganba region within the jurisdiction of the Hiyanglam police station in Kakching district after receiving a tip.

The police have identified the arrested cadre as Sougrakpam Kingson Singh, also known as Nongdam, 35, the son of the late S Noren from the neighbourhood of Hiyanglam Lai Panganba. For further legal action, a case has been filed at the Hiyanglam police station.

In another news, the Manipur Police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation in Thoubal district's Ushoipokpi foothills on Saturday. The seizure included rifles, magazines, grenades, detonators, live and empty rounds, tear smoke shells, radio sets, and other war-like items.

This follows a December 31 operation in Imphal West, where police recovered pistols, rifles, grenades, and communication devices. Additionally, between January 6 and 9, joint operations by the Assam Rifles, Indian Army, and Manipur Police across Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching districts yielded 19 weapons and ammunition in ethnic violence-affected areas, highlighting ongoing efforts to restore peace and security.
