ITANAGAR: The Education scenario in Arunachal Pradesh has undergone a vast transformation since 2019 with the State Government emphasizing on overhauling all aspects of the teaching process, the State's Education Minister, Taba Tedir said here on Monday. The Minister informed that the bold steps taken by the State Government to ensure training of teachers to boost quality of teaching in the schools, has improved the education sector to a great extent, as highlighted in the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2022, recently released by the Piramal Group.

The nationwide field survey has indicated overall enrolment rate (in age group 6-14) above 95 per cent in the State for past 15 years and increased from 97.2 per cent in 2018 to 98.4 per cent in 2022 despite school closures during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The proportion of enrolled three-year-old girls in some form of early childhood education stood at 64.4 per cent in 2022, an increase of 4.2 per cent over 2018 levels. There is a substantial shift in enrolment patterns of young children in the age group 3-5 years. In 2022, 42.7 per cent of three-year-olds were enrolled in Anganwadi centres as compared to 35.2 per cent in 2018. Among four-year-olds, Anganwadi enrolment has increased from 25.7 per cent (2018) to 29.8 per cent (2022), the survey had revealed.

Tedir added that the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers are getting regular salaries instead of once in six to seven months like in the past, while departmental promotion committee was conducted in six-month intervals for promotion that motivated teachers to work with sincerity and dedication.

"The State Government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu decided to improve infrastructure of all schools across 25 districts, made posting and transfer of teachers transparent, developed and activated department's web portal which indicates posting of teachers and teaching which subjects that helped in monitoring performance of the teachers", the Minister added. Asked about the reasons for rise in enrolment of girls, Tedir informed that that Prime Minister Narandra Modi's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyan made parents conscious to educate their daughters and that also awakened the girl students.

Girls have been performing much better than boys in classes X and XII. The dropout rate of students is also monitored to reduce it in the State, he added.
