Highlights issues of Chakmas & Hajongs; seeks solution to silt in Siang

NEW DELHI: Member of Parliament from East Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering met the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and protested against the Citizenship Amendment Bill and apprised him of the issue of Siang River on Wednesday.

Ering told the Prime Minister that “The proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, has created unrest and ruckus in the North Eastern part of India. Even my State of Arunachal Pradesh has clearly shown dissatisfaction on the proposed bill and people have come out strongly against it, he said.

“We already have the critical issue of Chakma and Hajongs in Arunachal Pradesh from the past thirty years. The CAB will further ignite the issue and create unforeseen administrative complexities,” Ering added.

Meanwhile, Ering also submitted a detailed research report on ‘Formalization of the National Policy of Silt Management in Indian Rivers’ in context of Siang River.

The research report highlighted the context and current scenario, water agreements and initiation, infrastructure projects, the regional security, human life and livelihood, ecological disturbances and many other issues in a letter.
