ITANAGAR: Ganja worth Rs 22 lakh was seized at Naharlagun town in Arunachal Pradesh, police said on Monday.

Following the interrogation of a woman arrested on June 24, a house was raided in Lekhi village on Sunday night and 12 bags of ganja weighing 195.67 kg were seized, they said.

The owner of the house was arrested in connection with the seizure, they added. The seized ganja was brought from Mengio in the Papum Pare district, Capital Superintendent of Police (SP) Jimmy Chiram said.

With this seizure, the total quantity of ganja seized by the police in the last couple of days rose to 721 kg, worth around Rs 72 lakh in the market, the SP said.

Earlier, on June 24 last, the police seized ganja worth over Rs 50 lakh from a house in Naharlagun and arrested a woman.

On receipt of intelligence inputs about involvement of a couple in supplying narcotics in the Capital Complex region, a special team of police was constituted by the Capital police and a raid was conducted in the house located in the Gollonallah area in Naharlagun on Friday evening.

During the search of the house, the police team found 525.97 kg of ganja hidden in the house, the SP said. The team also seized one .32 pistol besides, cash worth Rs 50,000. The police seized the materials along with an SUV vehicle, suspected to be proceeds of the drug trade, Chiram disclosed.
