Indian and Chinese armies celebrate Independence Day at Kibithu

Itanagar: Chinese Army joined their Indian counterparts at Kibithu in remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh to celebrate the 73rd Independence Day.

Indian Army received the delegation of China’s People Liberation Army (PLA) at Kibithu for joint celebration, an official release informed here on Saturday.

Eastern Command of Army on its Twitter handle said: “Indian Army and China’s PLA celebrated 73rd Independence Day at Kibithu on Aug 15.”

Kibithu, located on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), is the last road head of extreme northeast part of India in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. Lohit River enters India at Kibithu. The PLA has a sizeable deployment of troops opposite Kibithu which is maintained via Rau transit point. Kibithu, also located on the tri-junction of China to the north and Myanmar to the east, was briefly under Chinese occupation in 1962 war but before that Indians supplied rations and rice to Chinese troops.

Kibithu is one of the 5 officially agreed border personnel meeting (BPM) points between both armies for regular consultations and interactions. Kibithu has an Indian Army check post where the permits are checked.
