ITANAGAR: The capital police have arrested all three accused in the murder of SI Sibu George.
While the police with the help of West Bengal Police arrested two co-accused from Barrackpore, West Bengal on Tuesday, the prime suspect was arrested by the capital police on Friday night from Lakhimpur, Assam.
Capital Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kamdam Sikom did not disclose the name of the accused. He said that the police had retrieved one of the murder weapons (knife) from the place of occurrence while two others were recovered from the Jollang bridge, near Delhi Public School (DPS), Itanagar. "The information about the murder weapon was disclosed by the prime suspect on the same day of arrest and accordingly it was retrieved. Further, the forensic team is also working on the matter," he said.
Sikom said, as per the information, the two accused were somewhere hiding in their village at Bihar. The state police reached the village this morning but they (accused) somehow managed to escape before the team could reach. Nevertheless, the state police, in close support of the West Bengal Police, arrested both from Barrackpore, West Bengal while on the run.
He said that the SI used to provide money loans in the market, where the accused worked as an agent. There was a procedure of weekly collection of interest money where the agents deliver the money. So the temptation of earning huge return of money, the three planed and murdered the SI," he said, adding that the murder was purely because of financial transaction.
Sikom did not disclose further details and said that the matter is still under investigation and more details will be shared during the press briefing by the capital SP in a couple of days.
