GUWAHATI: A BJP leader from Assam was arrested by West Bengal Police officials from Guwahati metropolis for alleged misappropriation of funds in West Bengal.

The accused has been identified as Bhaskar Chakraborty, an active leader of the ruling BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in Assam.

A team of police from West Bengal after a long search found the accused on Thursday at the Kalyani Nagar locality of Guwahati and nabbed him from there.

To arrest the accused BJP chief the West Bengal police launched a search operation in Assam and took support from the Bhagadutta police officials from the Kahilipara area of Guwahati.

It came to light that the name of Bhaskar Chakraborty was on the list of most wanted records of the West Bengal police.

According to reports Chakroborty had been hiding in Assam's Guwahati after looting a huge amount of money in the eastern state of India, West Bengal.

About three months ago the accused looted crores of money in a city of West Bengal and escaped from there with the money as informed by sources.

Police after a thorough investigation came to know about Chakroborty's involvement in the big embezzlement of money and started to search for him by launching multiple search operations.

The team of West Bengal police finally apprehended the culprit from Guwahati following certain inputs.

Notably, the social media accounts of Chakroborty show his luxurious lifestyle where he is seen posting with expensive cars and wearing costly outfits.

Additionally in some of the pictures on social media, the accused is also seen posting with leading BJP leaders that also include the union ministers.

Meanwhile, it is informed that the accused BJP leader will be presented before the court on Friday 18 March for the hearing of the money embezzlement case.
