Landslide Hits Arunachal, 3 Vehicles Tumble into River

TIPPI: Torrential rains wreaked havoc in the Arunachal valley causing a massive landslide in the Tippi region of the hilly state on Sunday. 

Three vehicles which include a Maruti Van, an oil-carrying tanker, and a Bolero pickup van tumbled and descended into the nearby river. No human casualties are reported so far. 

A video that is being shared on the internet shows the devastating effects of the landslide where three people are seen standing in knee-deep water as they witness their car being swept away by the water and eventually falling into the river. 

"No casualty occurred, and the driver, handyman, and all the passengers in the three vehicles escaped unhurt," the Superintendent of Police of B.R. Bommareddy said in a statement. 

The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) has predicted heavy rains in the valley for the next 24 hours and has also issued warnings to the people to not venture outside. 

It is to be noted that, five people were killed in rain-triggered landslides in the Arunachal valley a few months ago in May this year.

Travelers using the Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) road have been advised to take the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tawang (OKSRT) road, owing to the landslide in the Tippi region. 

According to sources, the landslides near the Tippi waterfall are likely occurring "due to the earth-cutting which is been done for the Nechiphu tunnel, which is a few kilometers away."

Many states in the country have come under the impact of heavy rains including the national capital Delhi and the NCR region faced flash floods and many commuters were left stranded on the inundated roads in the capital city. 

Uttrakhand too is witnessing heavy spells of rain which have resulted in the crashing of a large hill in the state. Many pilgrims in the holy state were left stranded near Tawaghat after the national highway was closed following the landslide near Najang Tamba village.
