ITANAGAR: Early morning rain on Monday triggered landslides and flood-like situation in several areas of Arunachal Pradesh's capital and the Tawang district, while a lady died in a landslide here, a senior police officer informed.

The woman, identified as Rina Gawala and a mother of three, was killed when her house at Lobi-Panchali (Khula camp) area, was hit by a landslide triggered by a swollen stream at around 4:30 am, Capital SP Jimmy Chiram said.

The lady was a daily wage earner from Holongi in Assam. Her temporary house, along with all the belongings, was also washed away, local residents said.

The river Papu in Naharlagun, near here, swollen by incessant rain, left a trail of devastation at Down Press Colony.

Ten temporary houses were totally damaged, while 11 cars and scooters were washed away by flood water. However, there was no report of any human casualty.

Heavy rains were also recorded in parts of the Tawang district and Lungla sub-division, bordering China.

Lungla is the worst hit with many major roads washed away, disrupting surface communication, officials from Tawang informed.

A GREF canteen, garage, two shops and a car were washed away by landslide at Ziro Point in Mangnam village, Lunga MLA Jambey Tashi informed over telephone.

All-out efforts are being made to restore communication and rehabilitate all flood victims, he added.
