Maiden 'World Rose Day for Cancer' at Tertiary Cancer centre, TRIHMS

ITANAGAR: The women cell of All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) in collaboration with the All Lower Subansiri District Students Union (ALSDSU) organized the first-ever 'World Rose Day for Cancer' at Tertiary Cancer centre, TRIHMS here on Wednesday.

Speaking to the reporters, State Nodal Officer for Cancer Control Programme Sam Tsering informed that the day is celebrated to remember one Melinda Rose who suffered from very rare cancer. According to the doctors, Melinda could only survive for a week from the dreadful disease.

However, she always mingled with the other cancer patients and encouraged them to live life to the fullest. Though she left the world, her attitude and approach towards the disease by bringing smiles to the people is always remembered.

Therefore, to remember her, this day is celebrated as Rose Day for Cancer. A 12 years old girl, who inspired millions by fighting rare blood cancer, was diagnosed with Askin's tumour, which is a form of rare blood cancer.

The day is also marked to spread awareness about the disease and is for the welfare of cancer patients. On this day, hand-made roses, gifts, and cards are usually offered to cancer patients to spread hope and cheer into their lives as they face the fierce battle.

He also thanked the student's body for encouraging and visiting the cancer centre.

On the sideline, He also informed that the Tertiary Cancer centre was never closed despite Covid lockdown. Though there were hardships faced by the centre during the course of lockdown, the problems were solved amicably by the support from every section, he added.

Meanwhile, ANSU (Women Cell) General Secretary Joram Minu said that the day was celebrated to encourage as well as motivate the cancer patients to fight against the disease to overcome it.

She said the team distributed fruits and rose to each cancer patient and staff of the Tertiary Cancer centre, TRIHMS.

"This is our first approach towards any awareness campaign since the induction of the new ANSU team. However, we have also planned to collaborate with the cancer centre to carry forward more such awareness campaigns in the state," she said.
