Minister Honchun Ngandam urges people to preserve culture and heritage

LONGDING: The Minister RWD, Science & Technology Honchun Ngandam on Friday appealed to all section of society to work for preservation of age old cultural heritage and identity of tribal community of State.

Ngandam, while inaugurating the 'Paisah po cum Wancho po Museum' at Phongchau near here said that time has come that we need to come forward and work for protection of our tribal identity and also to preserved the aged old cultural heritage of tribal society.

The museum inaugurated on Friday will showcase the old activities, wood craft, dress and other traditional items which are being used by Wancho community.

Ngandam said that the vast tribal culture and diversity need to be maintained.

"We shall look forward to support the venture and urge upon the people to cooperate in maintaining the institution," Nangdam said, adding that the State has a vast geographical area with lots of potential for development.

Concerned over the alarming increase in drugs, Ngandam said that the State government under the leadership of Pema Khandu has taken up several strong initiatives to curb the menace and also creating mass awareness among the society of its ill effect on health and economy.

"The Home department has also taken up the challenge and no one will be sparred for involving in smuggling and consumption of drugs," he added.

He also assured that the boundary dispute with Nagaland will be resolved by the district administration.

Referring to one point memorandum submitted by the public regarding RCC protection wall to protect Chhaow (warfare scared ritual platform), Nangdam informed that he has directed the officers to submit the DPR and proposal for further consideration.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bani lego said that the Museum will be utilized for its best information for the younger generation.

He also informed that a dialogue will be initiated with the counterpart of Mon district in Nagaland for amicable solution with regards to boundary dispute.

"I am happy to know that several people are coming out from the clutch of opium and urge upon all to create awareness among the locality to avoid its consumption to stay healthy," he said.

He also appealed the locals who came out from the opium addiction to spread the negative effects of the drug.
