NERIST conducts orientation on adopted village clusters in Itanagar

Itanagar: The Regional Coordinating Institute of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) at North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) on Saturday organized a day-long orientation of “Participating Institutes to Initiate Work in Adopted Village Clusters”.

A total of 52 participants from different participating institutes (PIs) of the State attended the programme.

The main theme of the event was to involve the reputed higher educational institutions of the region with the vision of indigenous development of self-sufficient and sustainable village clusters, a press release informed here.

The programme was inaugurated by NERIST Director Prof H S Yadav who emphasized the role of farmers in nation-building.

Prof Ajay Saini of CRDT, IIT Delhi and Tabang Bodung, Papum Pare additional deputy commissioner (ADC) also graced the programme.

Regional Coordinator of UBA NERIST Cell Prof P Lingfa, in his address, emphasized that the institute of higher learning could play an important role for sustainable development of rural India.

Prof Ajay Saini delivered lectures through audio-visual mode on a case study of the development of Nicobar Island after it was devastated by the tsunami in 2004 and participatory rural appraisal and role of subject experts’ groups.

Prof Lingfa also briefed on the role of UBA for nation-building through the development or advancement of villages.

Dr T Patel explained about human safety in the operation of agricultural tools which are feasible in the region. Various laboratories like biodiesel, farm machinery, farm power, ergonomics were visited and tools, equipment and machines were perceived and demonstration of a few of them was conducted.

The feedback of the participants was taken and confusion or difficulties were cleared through video conferencing with the expert team of UBA National Coordinating Institute, IIT Delhi.
