Police arrest five drug peddlers in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: East Siang district police in Arunachal Pradesh in the past three days arrested five drug peddlers on Saturday, a senior police official from the district informed on Sunday. The arrested peddlers were identified as Maco Koyu, Taken Koyu, Raju Pegu, Biju Pegu and Putul Doley, East Siang SP Sumit Kumar Jha informed. Police also recovered contraband substances from their possession.

The SP informed that a police team comprising ASP Tasi Tonong Darang, OC Chako Joseph and SI Nyato Sora along with other police personnel on duty apprehended two suspected drug peddlers during routine Naka near Poba Forest Reserve on NH 515 on Thursday. During the search operation in presence of the Magistrate Oyam Saring 1.27 gm of contraband, suspected to be heroin was recovered from their possession and an FIR was registered accordingly under NDPS Act. On February 3, two more peddlers were arrested near Rayang Military Station after the disclosure statement of the arrested accused.

The SP added that a follow-up action yielded fruitful results. The trap was laid at Murkong-Selek Railway Station in Assam's Jonai and one more peddler who had come with a large quantity of contraband for the transaction was nabbed by the police team of Ruksin on Saturday, where 63.9 gm of contraband suspected to be heroin was recovered from his possession, in presence of Magistrate Jacob Tabing. The SP appreciated the officers and their associates for their swift action and brilliant display of professionalism. He urged the people to join hands with the police in the fight against drug abuse in the district. "Instead of hesitating, people should reach out to police as their support and cooperation could make a difference," he said and assured the utmost confidentiality and secrecy of informers.
