ITANAGAR: The PPA (People's Party of Arunachal) on Wednesday expressed concern over the gross neglect to the Pangin-Pasighat-Aalo Highway, which remained completely cut-off for nearly three months after a portion of it was blocked by landslides on June 27 last.

Though a temporary road was constructed through local arrangements, but that is only for light motor vehicles and is below the standard of an all weather road, the party said in a statement here.

"The people of Siang district feel dejected and neglected and silently feel that the state government has completely failed in its duty to safeguard and maintain an 'equitable treatment of all regions in the state with equal care and promotion'. In fact, the district, being one of the youngest in terms of its creation, deserves better care and encouragement in all respects as it is at its formative stage," PPA Secretary General Kaling Jerang said in the statement.

He added that it was disturbing to see that the main lifeline of the newly created district remains cut off from the rest of the state with no relief and aid coming neither from the highway department or the state government.

"The people of the district are grateful to Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong who visited the site on his own where the public took the opportunity to submit him a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister with a prayer for immediate restoration of the road. There has been no sign of any follow up action from the CMO till now," Jerang pointed out

He wondered how the road with highway t and that too regularly being used by the defence personnel and the BRO for decades, remained blocked for three consecutive months at a stretch on flimsy ground that tender had been floated for restoration of the road.

The party appealed to all the elected representatives of Si-Yomi, West Siang, Upper Siang and Siang districts to take up the matter with the chief minister on priority for immediate restoration without waiting any further for the tender formalities to complete.

The party also urged them to consider the fact that as the under construction Aalo-Likbali road would take much longer time for its completion, the people of the districts are dependent on the Pangin-Pasighat-Aalo road only so as of now.
