Rare hawk-eagle rescued in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh's Environment and Forest Minister Mama Natung, along with a team of officers from the Biological Park Itanagar headed by curator Raya Flago, assisted in the rescue of a juvenile mountain hawk eagle (nisaetus nipalensis) from Pakke Kessang on Monday.

On receiving the news that a juvenile Eagle was rescued at Pakke Kessang, the Minister, being a true lover and protector of wildlife, went to the spot daring stormy weather and rescued the bird himself and handed it over to zoo authority for further rehabilitation.

The raptor was rescued by Ajay Kumar Subha, owner of Ane Hotel from the Rillo area of the district.

As per his statement, the young raptor might have fallen from its nest and unable to get back into its nest due to non-development of wings and was lost. Subha had also rescued one Himalayan griffon from same area earlier and handed it over to Biological Park Itanagar.

Mama Natung appreciated the good work of Subha and request the people to follow his in his footsteps and save wildlife and avoid any kind of hunting.

Biological Park Veterinary Officer Dr Sorang Tadap inspected the raptor and found it to be physically healthy.

The raptor is not fully developed so it will be kept at Itanagar Zoo for further rehabilitation.

The mountain hawk-eagle is distributed through the Himalayas extending from Pakistan, India, Nepal and China.
