ITANAGAR: Six differently-abled students received the Indus Towers Scholarship for higher studies in a programme which was organized in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Parents Association of the Disabled (APPAD) on Friday.
Speaking to media, project coordinator, ITSP, Northeast, Seema Jangid informed that the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme (ITSP) is a CSR initiative of Indus Towers Limited (formerly Bharti Infratel Limited), being implemented by the NGO Shishu Sarothi.
It was launched in 2016 in association with Shishu Sarothi with the objective of encouraging and supporting students with disability and has since supported 316 students with disability from across the North-East in pursuing higher education.
The programme will be supporting 600 students over a period of 5 years.
The selected students will be provided support towards their educational fees till the completion of their course, and a few are also being granted additional assistance towards study materials/assisting devices/hostel/conveyance.
Earlier, APPAD president Tagom Ronya appreciated Shishu Sarothi and ITSP for organizing such an event to help both students and their parents.
He further appealed to the State Government to come up with a policy and programme to encourage the differently-abled students.
