ITANAGAR: The Special Investigation Cell (Vigilance) has arrested three people in connection with the Seppa-Chayang Tajo NEC road scam, the work which began in the year 2008 and is yet to be completed.

Addressing the media at the State Civil Secretariat, SP (SIC) Hemant Tiwari said that on Monday, SIC arrested Nacho PWD Division Executive Engineer (EE), Tare Murtem and former EE PWD, Bameng division, Doba Jini, along with Managing Director of M/s DRB Infrastructure Private Limited, Hyderabad, Ramesh Babu who was arrested on Tuesday. He said that Tare Murtem was produced before Special Judge (PCA), Bomdila and has been granted 14 days police custody. Meanwhile, Doba Jini and Ramesh Babu will be produced before the special judge (PCA), Bomdila on Wednesday.

"Doba Jini and Ramesh Babu were arrested when they failed to provide satisfactory answers after being called by the SIC for questioning, " he added. Tiwari also informed that the SIC was looking for EE PWD Chayangtajo Division Nyakpu Yangfo, who was currently at large. Yangfo was earlier posted as AE in Seppa-Chayangtajo division. "Nyakpu Yangfo is not cooperating with the SIC for long. He has approached for interim relief in the Itanagar permanent bench of Gauhati High court, which was denied today," he added. He appealed to the public to cooperate in locating the whereabouts of Nyakpu Yangfo for arrest.

"At present we are in play to arrest Nyakpu Yangfo, who is at large and SIC has no plan to arrest others. However, the executing road construction agency is under the scanner of SIC," he said, adding that any further details on the issue would be briefed to the media.

While denying diffusing any incrementing evidence on the case, Tiwari said that there were around 20 engineers who supervised the road till date and all the engineers could not be said to be involved in the scam. Tiwari also denied any pressure from any community-based organization for leniency in the case.

"The SIC has taken the case at the highest level and there is no such pressure from any group or individual. The only pressure right now SIC is facing is to arrest the accused," he added.

The arrest was made in connection to SIC (Vig) Case No 2/21 u/s 120 (b) 420/465/471/409 IPC, read with Section 13 (1) (c) (d) 13 (2) PC Act.
