Women bikers create record by touring Northeast in seven days

ITANAGAR: For the first time, three female bikers toured seven Northeast States in just seven days creating a record of sort by venturing into a challenging adventure with the theme 'Breaking Sterotype and Redefining North East'.

The bikers -- NirmaliNath from Assam, OnenNenty of Nagaland and Rosalynn Lushai from Mizoram -- reached Itanagar on April 9 last after travelling from Guwahati to Shillong. The trio went to Silchar, Agartala, Aizawl, Imphal, Dimapur, Tezpur and to Itanagar and back to Kaziranga, covering a distance of 2500 km riding 300-400 km daily.

Members of APTOA (Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association) warmly welcomed them in Itanagar with felicitation and hosted their breakfast before completion of their tour at the 'Kaziranga National Park' on April 10.

APTOA president John Panye along with treasurerMichiRajen extended warm greetings and appreciated the courage and challenging attitudes the young girls on behalf of all the stakeholders and Arunachal Tourism.

"Our youths of North East States should venture out and explore the beautiful places and people to promote them to the outside world for growth of the Tourism sector in the region," he said.

The girl bikers said that the tour was intended to shed the stereotype impression about women who are mostly confined inside the four walls of their house.

"The tour is about breaking the age-old and outdated beliefs portraying the NE States and to portray the NE as a safe destination for all types of tourists," they said, adding that their aim was also to promote sisterhood among the seven sister States.
