Zero waste and plastic-free drive launched in Pasighat

PASIGHAT: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu launched the Mission 'Zero Waste and Plastic-Free' campaign for the GTC-Tebo- Raneghat-Legging area, taken up by the Green Army Volunteers under the initiative of the Adi Bane Ane Kebang, East Siang Unit(ABAK-ESDU) here recently.

Addressing at a simple function to mark the occasion, Taggu said that cleanliness initiative to make GTC-Tebo-Raneghat-Leging of Pasighat area a zero waste & plastic-free zone through community efforts and adopting best practices with the mentoring of well-known NGO for waste management & recycling, Green Squad is worthy of emulating by all.

"Keeping our city and surroundings clean and garbage free is the responsibility of every member of society. Cleanliness should be a way of life," he added.

Oming Jamoh Pertin, Adi Bane Ane Kebang (ABAK) president, said that said the aim is to promote and encourage people to adopt zero waste & plastic-free lifestyle in their respective areas She thanked Tigul Megu Darrang , general secretary, ABAK and team for their tireless efforts.

Known for his "creative magic bag" for garbage to enthuse people to adopt zero waste lifestyle, Niku Shah of Green Squad said that he will continue to impart best practices in their zero waste mission. The mission will be monitored by the Green Army, who are selected from each village segment, sector, institution etc. They will monitor the cleanliness of their respective surroundings and vicinities.

Free Recycle bags were also distributed to volunteers by Adi Bane Ane Kebang. More than 200 bags of dry waste were collected for recycling by Green Squad team.
