MORIGAON: The people of Morigaon took a sigh of relief with the inauguration of a 10-bedded ICU room, designed especially for mothers and children, which was formally handed over to the Swahid Tilak Hemram Gunabhiram Civil Hospital on Monday.

Morigaon MLA Rama Kanta Deuri and District Commissioner Anamika Tiwari opened the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in presence of Jt Director of Health Dr Arun Nath, Superintendent of Morigaon Civil Hospital Dr Sailendra Bardhan Bora, DPM of NHM Jubin Sultana, senior doctors, and nurses.

The authority of Morigaon Civil Hospital declared that the ICU will be operational from July 1. DC Anamika Tiwari said that there was a need for a new dimension to the health sector in the district and long-standing needs of the people which were fulfilled with the addition of the ICU to the hospital.

Earlier, the newly-constructed Mother and Child Health Department of Morigaon District Hospital had been officially inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta in the presence of Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika. The 10-bed ICU was built at a cost of Rs 23 crore. However, for various reasons, the ICU room was not operational till Monday.

The District Commissioner was accompanied by Additional District Commissioner of Health Anusuya Sharma during the inauguration.
