126th fountain day of Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society observed

GOLAGHAT:Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society, one of the oldest and prestigious organizations of drama artistes, observed its 126th foundation day on Wednesday. On the occasion, the Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society flag was hoisted by Society president DrManash Roy. Thereafter, smrititarpan was done by veteran artiste and former president MontuKarmakar where the founders, artistes and other officials and staff of the Society who have left for heavenly abode were remembered. After that a commemoration meet was held which was presided over by DrManash Roy. Former Chief Minister TarunGogoi's demise was mourned.

DrAjitBaruah, former president of Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society, delivered a speech on the contributions of TarunGogoi who was a life member of the Society.

Earlier, lighting of lamp in front of the portrait of TarunGogoi was done and floral tributes were paid to the departed soul. A collection of articles written by MontuKarmakar and a video album describing the history and heritage of Golaghat were unveiled by the president of GolaghatSakhaSahityaSabha, Khirod Kumar Goswami. The foundation day programme was conducted by administrative secretary DipmoniKhatoniar. However, the cultural programme which was scheduled to be held on Wednesday night, has been postponed to November 27 due to the demise of former Chief Minister TarunGogoi.
