152 quintals of paddy seized in Biswanath district

In some parts of Biswanath district, it has come to light that some middlemen had cheated the farming community and purchased the paddy at the rate of Rs. 1200 or 1,500 instead of the Rs. 2,040 fixed by the government.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: In some parts of Biswanath district, it has come to light that some middlemen had cheated the farming community and purchased the paddy at the rate of Rs. 1200 or 1,500 instead of the Rs. 2,040 fixed by the government. Due to which the Biswanath district administration and the district Food and Civil Supplies Department have started conducting drives against such circles. On Monday evening, a search team led by Biswanath District Food and Civil Supplies Department conducted raids at Mohjuli, Bhimajuli of Balisang along Assam Arunachal border.

During the raid, around 152 quintals of paddy were seized from Banwarilal Sharma of Mohjuli. Banwarilal Sharma allegedly tried to purchase the paddy at a price lower than the rate fixed by the government and send it to other states. A truck numbered AS 01 MC 0895 was also seized. Meanwhile, the sale of paddy requires a license under the Assam Rice and Rice Purchase and Sale Act, 1955, but Banwarilal Sharma could not show any licence.
