SILCHAR: Police continues to be in action in Karimganj district too. Till date 17 land sharks, big and small, have been taken into custody and after observing mandatory legal procedures are being sent to jail. According to information from the border town, two top mafias, Abdul Rouf and Ajay Das, were brought to police remand for three days after arrest and produced before the CJM Court and sent to jail. Three others in jail were taken on remand. From their cross-examination, police could gather more information about their racket and modus-operandi.

On the request of O/C Karimganj Bijit Das to the Court, the three known dalals, Tarik Ahmed Choudhury, Amirul Islam Khan and Abdul Muqtadir were taken on remand and after producing them before the Court sent to jail. Significant to note the Deputy Commissioner of Karimganj, Khageswar Pegu, filed cases of forgery and deceit against the 17 accused who were arrested from different places of the district.

The other accused in the case are Abul Hussain, Jakir Hussain, Altaf Hussain, Tarik Ahmed Choudhury, Sushanta Kar, Mazir Uddin, Taj Uddin, Karishna Pada Das, Kakatul Ambia Choudhury, Anup Dutta, Gour Pada Deb, Shibabrata Bhattacharjee and Subrata Bhattacharjee. Their arrest has sent sleepless nights for muhris and agents. Some other members of syndicate apprehending arrest any time are on the run. O/C Karimganj police station has declared continuation of their operation.

Victims of land mafias besides expressing their happiness and gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma demand toughest of action against them in order to disenable them from daring to return to their easy fraudulent business. The people in general have welcomed the bold steps of the Chief Minister and hope police will crack whip on land sharks whenever they try to raise their ugly heads.
