NUMALIGARH: There will be a major leakage of hydrocarbon vapour inside the refinery premises through the elevated flare due to sudden power failure and malfunctioning of some equipment in Numaligarh Refinery Limited on Friday. The leaked hydrocarbon vapours will form a cloud and move outwards towards south-west direction. Then there will be a fire in some hutments of Bishnupur village.

NRL sources have informed that this is nothing but part of a mock drill under the Refinery's Offsite Disaster Management Programme (ODMP). This offsite disaster mock drill is the 18th in a row. Every year, as per advice of District Authority of Golaghat, NRL organizes such an exercise for offsite disaster mock drill to meet the requirement of MSIHC rule, 1989. The mock drill will be spearheaded by the Fire & Safety wing of the Refinery and will start at 11 AM on Friday.
