KOKRAJHAR: The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), in association with the Kokrajhar district committee, on Friday observed the 22nd death anniversary of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma at his burial place at Chandamari in Kokrajhar.

As part of the programme, the president of the BSS, Taren Boro hoisted the organizational flag at half mast while Lawrence Islary, MLA of 30-Kokrajhar East constituency paid floral tribute at his portrait. The programme was also attended by the CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro, EMs-Ranjit Basumatary and Reo Reoa Narzihary ABSU president Dipen Boro Nilut Swargiary, Daobaisa Boro, president of ABWWF Dipali Narzary, and other dignitaries.

The president of the BSS, Taren Boro said Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma took a huge responsibility for the uplift of Bodo medium and literature. He said that Brahma also selflessly dedicated for the society and worked with moral responsibility. He also said Brahma was born in a critical period where Bordos witnessed fratricidal killings and he subsequently sacrificed his life.

Boro said that Brahma played a major role for inclusion of Bodo language in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India and making it associate official language of Assam. He also said that separate Directorate for Bodo and other tribal languages had become a reality because of the hard work of Brahma. He called upon all to recollect his contributions to the society.

BTC chief Pramod Boro said that Brahma was a leader with clear mission and vision for the society who worked relentlessly. He said that Bineswar Brahma was a victim of violence and terrorism. "I started to raise voice against the arms movement and terrorism since 2009 as terrorism has taken lives of hundreds of people in the region," he said, adding that today the people must realize the bad impact of terrorism. He said most of the Bodo leaders lost their lives due violence among brothers. He further said some of the youths of the region were misguided and joined the armed struggle.
