LAKHIMPUR: With the last day of filing nomination for the first phase of Assam Legislative Assembly Election, a total of 24 candidates filed their nominations before the respective Returning Officers of the four LACs of Lakhimpur district.

In No.111 Lakhimpur LAC, Congress candidate Dr. Joy Prakash Das, Voter's Party International candidate Dilwar Hussain, Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Ranjan Borpatra Gohain and independent candidate Nabajit Dutta filed their nominations before Khageswar Pegu, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer of the LAC.

On the other hand, Congress candidate and former cabinet minister Bharat Chandra Narah, RUC candidate Ubaidur Rahman, AJP candidate Putali Kayastha, Bharatiya Gana Parishad candidate Bikash Debnath, Bharatiya Nari Shakti candidate Saheba Ahmed, Raijor Dal candidate Azizur Rahman, Nationalist Congress Party candidate Dipak Saikia, independent candidates Rao Gajendra Singh, Abdul Gafur, Biri Joy, Gohin Borah and Nabajit Dutta filed their nominations in No. 110 Naoboicha LAC before ADC-cum-Returning Officer Utpal Borah.

Similarly, five candidates of different political parties filed their nominations in No. 109 Bihpuriya LAC before Returning Officer-cum-ADC Kulen Sarmah. They are— BJP candidate Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, AJP candidate Achyut Saikia, independent candidates Anup Saikia, Shubheswar Gogoi and Tuleswar Pegu. Notably, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal accompanied Amiya Kumar Bhuyan while filing his nomination. The Chief Minister arrived in North Lakhimpur by a helicopter after he had filed his nomination in Majuli LAC.

A total of three candidates filed their nominations in No. 112 Dhakuakhana LAC before Gurnel Singh, the SDO (Civil)-cum-Returning Officer of the LAC. They are Congress candidate Padma Losan Doley, AJP candidate Satyajit Regan and independent candidate Tikendra Nath Borah

Notably, a total of 10 candidates filed their nominations in the four LACS of the district on Monday and one candidate on Saturday. Along with them, a total of 35 candidates have extended their candidature for the poll battle in the district. The nominations will be scrutinized on March 10 while March 12 is scheduled as the last date for the withdrawal of candidature.
