BOKO: A man died of electric shock in Kaliabari village of Boko on Friday. The victim, identified as Vijay Das, 26, of Kaliabari village, was electrocuted when an electricity wire fell on the ground while he was trying to take his cattle outside.

After the incident, the villagers took him to Boko Primary Health Center but doctors pronounced him dead. Boko police went to the spot and started an investigation. They sent the victim’s body to Guwahati Medical College Hospital for postmortem reports.

The residents of the area were angry at the Assam power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) for their negligence of duty. People of the area went to the APDCL Boko office and protested. However, the villagers and family members of Das, including his wife and parents, said that there were no employees in the office till 1 PM while all the lights, fans, and AC were running.

The residents alleged that the departmental authorities did not pay any attention to the repair of the power line, leading to the electrocution of Vijay Das, who was the sole breadwinner of the family. The residents demanded the state government to investigate the matter, punish the culprits, transfer the departmental engineers immediately, and provide compensation to the family.

Meanwhile, the family and the villagers met Boko Revenue Circle Officer Divas Bardoloi over the incident, said Anil Das, a resident of Kaliabari village.
