HAFLONG: The Kukis of Dima Hasao observed 'Kuki Sahnit Nikho' (Kuki Black Day) in all the Kuki villages, along with rest of the Kukis of the world, seeking justice for thousand of Kukis killed from 1991 to 1997.

'Sahnit Nikho' in Kuki is best translated as 'Black Day' in English. Hence, 'Kuki Sahnit Nikho' is often translated as 'Kuki Black Day' in English, though not same.

The 'Kuki Black Day' is observed to mourn the Kuki people killed, and to pray for the departed souls, for the bereaved families and to pray that justice will be delivered to victims and to Kukis as a whole.

At Songpijang, a public gathering programme was held in the premises of gaon burah L. Guite and it was conducted by village secretary Upa H. Haolai. The speech on the theme was delivered by Pastor H. Changsan as secretary of Songpijang Churches Fellowship. He also led the condolence meeting and mass prayer.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Kuki people killed by Naga Lim Guard of NSCN (IM) from 1991 to 1997 numbered to more than 1,000 in all Kuki inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland. Those killed on September 13, 1993 was more than 100, mostly at Joupi village in Manipur.
