DOOMDOOMA: The 41st foundation day of Sadiya College, the only institution of higher learning in the whole of Sadiya subdivision, was celebrated on Tuesday with a day-long programme.
The programme got underway with hoisting of 41 flags on behalf of the teaching and non-teaching staff led by President of the Governing Body (GB) of the college and former Associate Professor, Bhuban Gogoi. Before the start of the main programme, the foundation stone of the Science Building was jointly laid by the MP of Lakhimpur Parliamentary Constituency, Pradan Baruah and local MLA, Sadiya constituency, Bolin Chetia.
In the inaugural function that followed thereafter with Bhuban Gogoi in the chair, Principal Dr Bhupen Chutia welcomed the guests. Laying emphasis on the new education policy, 2020 and digital classrooms, MP Pradan Baruah, who attended the function as guest of honour, declared to sanction Rs 15 lakh for the Science building from MP's Local Area Development Fund (MPLADF) and assured to request Oil India Limited (OIL) for more financial assistance from its CSR fund in view of Sadiya being included within its OIL operational area.
On the other hand, MLA Bolin Chetia declared Rs 10 lakh from untied fund of the financial year 2022 -23. He further divulged that one 100 Megawatt Solar Power plant would be set up in Sadiya and two CNG stations would also be established with the help of Assam Gas Company Limited and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). In that case, fuel consumption of the consumers for two wheelers and four wheelers would come down to half the existing price.
