Guwahati: After almost five hours of counting, some key faces seem to be losing the Assam elections 2021.

Among the big names are –

Assam Congress President Ripun Bora in Gohpur (11,104 votes), Congress leader and former Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia (10224 votes) in Nazira. He is 2-time MLA of Nazira and son of 2-time Assam CM Hiteswar Saikia. The Nazira seat has been a Congress bastion. The seat was won 6-times by Hiteswar Saikia and 2-times by his Debabrata Saikia's mother Hemoprabha Saikia.

Mayur Buragohain of BJP is leading in the Nazira seat.

Assam Minister for Social Welfare and 6-times MLA from Kokrajhar East Pramila Rani Brahma of BPF is trailing. Lawrence Islary of UPPL is leading in Kokrajhar East.

Assam Minister for Tourism, Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes and 3-times MLA of Sidli, Chandan Brahma of BPF is trailing. Joyanta Basumatary of UPPL is leading.

Another big defeat could be of former AASU General Secretary and now President of recently launched regional party Asom Jatiya Parishad, Lurinjyoti Gogoi. As per the initial trends released by the Election Commission of India, he is in the second position in Naharkatia (BJP's Taranga Gogoi is leading) and in Duliajan, he is in the third slot (Congress's Dhrubajyoti Gogoi is leading).

RTI activist and jailed Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi is headed for a clear win in Sibsagar.
