DOOMDOOMA: A total of 51 piped water supply schemes completed in all development blocks of Tinsukia district under Jal Jeevan Mission of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department were officially handed over to the Gaon Panchayats (GP) and the Water Supply Consumers’ Committees in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Swapnil Pal at the conference hall of the Tinsukia DC office on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by DC Swapnil Pal who said that emphasis would be placed on solving all the problems arising in the successful implementation of the flagship scheme of the Government of India, Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that the completed water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission would be handed over to the Gaon Panchayats and Water Supply Consumer Committees on the 5th and 20th of every month. The DC said the Panchayat and Rural Development department was fully committed to the successful implementation of the piped water supply scheme. He also urged the PHE Department and GPs and Rural Development Department to make joint efforts for the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen in the district. He directed the departments concerned to ensure that the water workers employed to monitor the piped water supply schemes receive their monthly remuneration on a regular basis.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Zila Parishad, Munindra Bardoloi said that it was very important to take necessary steps to ensure that the work of this public welfare scheme was completed within the stipulated time-frame. The CEO said the cooperation of the local people was essential in this regard. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (PHE) Sarfraz Haque said that the cooperation and monitoring of the public was essential for the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The ADC urged the locals to ensure that no miscreant could damage the water supply scheme. The scheme is being constructed by the PHE Department under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The monthly remuneration of these water meters and the monthly electricity bills of the water supply schemes would be paid from the 15th Finance Commission. A total of 162 water supply schemes have been completed in the district so far under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The meeting was attended by Executive Engineer of PHE Department Jyotikrishna Mahanta, other officers and employees of PHE Department, Block Development Officers of all development blocks of the district, presidents and secretaries of Gaon Panchayats and presidents and secretaries of Water Supply Consumer Committees.
