GOLAGHAT: Finance, Women and Child Development Minister Ajanta Neog inaugurated a Sakhi One Stop Centre under the auspices of the Women and Child Development Department and a water supply scheme implemented by the Public Health Technical Department and two roads constructed by the Public Works (Roads) Department in Golaghat on Thursday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Sakhi One Stop Center at Jonaki Nagar, Golaghat, the Minister said that the centre is not only a relief for the abused women but also another step towards women's empowerment.

"Our success is not just roads or houses. If we can build a healthy society it will be our real success. She said the main weapons for this are education and social awareness.

She said women should be able to talk about their problems and thoughts openly. Otherwise, if things continue to accumulate, women will never get real justice in cases of violence, injustice, sexual assault etc. "We cannot move forward on the path of success without ensuring the safety of children, girls and women.

The minister said women must first establish their identity despite the challenges. She also urged women who are victims of domestic violence or abuse to come out and establish themselves.

Speaking at the function, District Social Welfare Officer-in-Charge Gauri Priya Deuri said the one-stop center provides free legal services, medical services, police assistance, counseling and accommodation for 4 days and 5 nights to women victims of domestic violence, homelessness and human trafficking. They are later referred to shelters as required.

She urged women who had experienced sexual harassment in the workplace to seek help from their workplace safety committees or local level safety committees. She also urged women victims of domestic violence to file complaints with the Child Development Project Officer in charge as the Protection Officer or the District Social Welfare Officer as required.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineer, Public Works (Roads) Department Udayan Barthakur, Golaghat Municipality Chairman Dulumani Barbara, Social Worker Rupa Saikia, Child Development Project Officers, departmental officers and employees, representatives of various NGOs and many others.

The one-stop centre was constructed by the Public Works (Home) Department at a cost of Rs 24,33,552. The minister also inaugurated a water supply scheme under the 'Jal Jeevan Mission' under Pulibar Panchayat in Golaghat. 246 families have been supplied with water under the water supply scheme. She also inaugurated Matikhola-Naharjan Grant Road (Length-5.00 km) and Hatigarh Matikhola Project Tinali Road (Length-1.18 km) under Matikhola Panchayat.
