TINSUKIA: A 7-year-old girl died due to a suspected case of spider bite, likely Tarantula, at Panitola TE in Tinsukia district. Tilmoni Gorait, daughter of Laba Gorait of Khalmati Line, was bitten by a suspected Tarantula in the right web of finger at 7 PM on Tuesday and brought dead to Tinsukia Civil Hospital on Wednesday morning. When photographed, the spider was alive, having a body size with legs approximately 14 mm in length.

Though there is no evidence of venomous spiders in Tinsukia district, a similar incident in 2012, in which 2 victims died in Sadiya following bites by a large hairy spider resembling a Tarantula, had caused panic. The experts then suspected that the victim may have died due to treatment from a witch doctor. The species remained unidentified.
