71st Village Defence Party foundation day observed in Jorhat

JORHAT: Veteran freedom fighter and Village Defence Party (VDP) founder Harinarayan Baruah was recalled for his contribution on the 71st foundation day of VDP organized by Jorhat Police, VDP committees and administration at the Jorhat District Library auditorium, said Imdad Ali, Additional SP (security), Jorhat on Saturday.

Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa said that there were no words to speak about the great founder of VDP who formed the organization in 1949 to assist in maintain law and order.

Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by Mrinal Talukdar, Jorhat Superintendent of Police, who spoke about Harinarayan Baruah along with freedom fighters like Jananayak Debeswar Sarma, Tulsi Narayan Sarma, Rohini Hatibaruah and Bidyadhor Sarma.

Family members of the VDP founder were felicitated. Moreover, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa extended help to construct waiting sheds in vulnerable and sensitive areas across the districts of Assam from his developmental fund.

The day-long program was presided over by Ratneswar Bora, president of the Teok Police Station committee.
