76th Independence Day: Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Divas observed in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: On the occasion of the 76th Independence Day celebration, as instructed by the Government of Assam, the district administration of Dima Hasao observed, Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas' or Partition Horrors Remembrance Day to remembering the pain of partition of the country .

Nazreen Ahmed Deputy Commissioner Dima Hasao, addressing the people during the programme spoke about the significance of the day. She said, "The pain of partition of the country can never be forgotten. Because of hatred and violence, lakhs of our people were displaced and lost their lives. Let us all remember them and their struggle on this day."

Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar also attended the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Partition Horror Remembrance Day shall keep reminding of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment.

A floral tribute and lighting of the earthen lamp was done at the beginning of the programme. The meeting started with Jatiya Sangeet after which Deputy Commissioner gave a welcome address.

Dr Rakhimoni Gogoi, Head of the Department of Political Science, Haflong Government College, and Sukanta Dey, Assistant Teacher of Political Science from Fiagpui Higher Secondary School, were invited as resource persons who spoke abou the Partition and its aftermath. A short movie screening on the occasion about the Partition was done as the part of the programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by ADC Kimchin Lhangum.
