MORIGAON: A team from the 7th Assam State Finance Commission, led by chairman Lieutenant General (Retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, visited Morigaon district on Tuesday to assess ongoing development initiatives and review future plans. The delegation included Special Secretary Hemant Kumar Deuri (Retd), Director of the Commission Mati Lal Sarkar, Consultant Bodhindra Lahkar, and Section Officer Uttam Hazarika.
The visit began with a review meeting at the Directorate of Tribal Development Project (ITDP) office, attended by representatives from all panchayats of the district. Key officials present included Anamika Tewari, ACS, District Commissioner of Morigaon; Ananta Kumar Gogoi, Chief Executive Officer of Morigaon Zilla Parishad; and Pranati Kalita Deka, president of Morigaon Zilla Parishad, along with departmental officers and staff. Discussions centred on the need for strategic investment in rural development, focusing on road connectivity, rural electrification, agriculture, and small-scale industries. The commission members assured that suggestions from panchayat representatives would be incorporated into their final report.
Following the ITDP session, the team met with the Municipal Council at the District Commissioner’s office. Executive Officer Manas Pratim Baruah presented a detailed overview of various urban development projects underway in Morigaon, highlighting progress in infrastructure and public services.
