8 arrested for gambling by Margherita Police

DOOMDOOMA: Based on specific information, a police team from Margherita Police Station (PS) conducted a raid at a rented house near Hill View of Margherita and caught eight persons red-handed while they were gambling. An amount of Rs 89,000 and some playing items were seized from their possession.

They have been identified as Ujjal Sutradhar (Puchu), Pranjit Konwar (Junti), Bachu Dey, Utpal Das, Pintu Hussain, Pilpil Kalita, Dodomoni Konwar and Manoj Kumar Dutta. They all belong to Margherita and Utpal Das is reportedly a constable of Assam Police.

A case was registered against them (case no. 275/21 U/S 14/15 of Assam Gambling and Betting Act) at Margherita PS and all the eight accused were sent to judicial custody.
