One dies, another seriously injured in gambling dispute at Phillobari

DOOMDOOMA: Great sensation prevailed on recovering the body of a gambler by Police inside Kanchijan Forest near Sitalpur Tingkhong village under Phillobari Police Station(PS), near here, in Tinsukia district on Sunday. The body is of Gopi Mura, informed sources.

On Dewali night Maniram Das after losing all his money to Gopi Mura while gambling together beat him with an iron rod to death.

Another person identified as Paban Tanti -- who also gambled with him -- alleged that his hands were also gravely injured after Das beat him mercilessly with the iron rod. He fled the spot to save his life, stated police.

In the meanwhile, the Police sent the body of deceased Gopi Mura for postmortem examination at Tinsukia. On the other hand, accused Maniram Das reportedly surrendered at Phillobari PS this evening.

The incident caused a great sensation in the Phillobari area. The locals are concerned as gambling and sale of illicit liquor sale have been on the rise in the area for quite some time. They also asked the administration to take strong steps in this regard.
