80 year old Man allegedly raped 12 year old physically challenged girl in Biswanath

Biswanath: In a shocking incident, an 80-year-old man allegedly raped a 12-year-old physically challenged girl in North Bhir village under Biswanath District last Saturday.

Sources also informed that the minor girl was playing with her friends from her neighborhood in the village at the evening hours when she suddenly got disappeared.

As per reports, the innocent minor girl was lured by the 80-year-old man identified as Anil Saikia had taken her to his residence in the evening hours where he allegedly made an attempt to rape her.

The incident had sparked sensation among the family and local people in the village.

Later, the girl was spotted at Anil Saikia’s house at around 9 pm in a poor health condition.

Following the incident, angry villagers apprehended the old man from his residence and house arrested him at the victim’s residence.

Later, police apprehended the suspected accused and also sent the victim to the hospital for a medical checkup.

Furthermore, local people in the village alleged that the notorious old man Anil Saikia was involved in such cases from a very long time.

Despite the widespread campaign against atrocities upon women and expansion of women police stations in the State, the number of cases related to rape and dowry has been on the stiff rise.

According to a police report, there were 1,801 cases of rape, 9,718 cases related to dowry during 2015-16. Other hands, there were 1,571 cases of rape and 9,629 cases related to dowry during 2016-17. Moreover, there were 1,751 cases of rape while 10,860 cases related to dowry during 2017-18.

Earlier an official crime report on cases of women related violence has revealed a very gloomy picture of the state of law and order in Assam as far as the last two years of BJPcoming into power in the state.

As per the report, a whopping 4,130 cases of rape have been reported, and over 15,000 dowry-related violence, ever since the BJP-led government came to power in the state two years ago.

Experts are of the view that such rising figures of crimes of sexuality and violence against women could be assessed as an embarrassment to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government since it came to power in 2016 while assuring the protection of lives and property of the people.

During the state assembly session, Assam Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that a total of 4,130 cases of rape have been reported from across the state in the last two years, a total of 15,470 cases related to dowry have been reported during the period.
